Nunez Receives Bob Hayes Memorial Scholarship

West Palm Beach, FL- Falcons senior student-athlete Nick Nunez has been a part of the Falcons Track and Field and Cross Country teams since his 9th grade year. Next week at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville, Nick and his teammates will compete against student-athletes from all over the state. For Nunez, the Bob Hayes Invitational will be unlike any of the numerous meets he has participated in over his 4-year career as a Falcons runner.

On Friday, March 18, the Falcons senior will be presented with the Bob Hayes Memorial Scholarship during an intermission ceremony at the track meet. The Bob Hayes Memorial Scholarship is presented to college bound senior student-athletes who are participating in the Bob Hayes Invitational and plan to continue to run at the collegiate level.

Bob Hayes was a former track and field star at Florida A&M University, a two-time gold medalist at the 1964 Olympics, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, and is a member of the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. In 1964, the “Bullet” was the first person in history to run the 100 yard dash in 9.1 seconds.

In order to be considered for the scholarship, Nunez had to complete an essay describing how track will help him achieve his future goals, submit two letters of recommendation, submit his official transcripts, and list and describe his involvement in the community with community service and extracurricular activities.

The $1,000 scholarship will be sent to the college Nunez decides to attend upon acceptance into the college or university. In addition to receiving the scholarship, Nunez has also been excelling on the track during the early stages of spring track season. In the first meet of the year, Nunez, along with teammates Isaias Dela Puente, Craig Allen, and Zach El-Abbar set the school record for the boys 4x1600 meter relay with a time of 20:54.
